If WebM offers better file size than MP4, preserving video quality, I include both file types onto a page for a browser to choose, prioritizing WebM. I usually convert into both WebM and MP4. Visit MDN to learn more about web-video codecs.īased on, most modern browsers support the WebM format. WebM with VP8/VP9 codec: relatively new format compared to MP4/H.264.It offers good balance options between quality and file size. MP4 video encoded with H.264 codes: widely supported video format well-suited for the Web.Here is the list of ones supported by modern browsers: This way, you skip the conversion process if the tool you used to create an animation gives enough flexibility to adjust video parameters. Rendering your animation directly into video formats is always better than converting a GIF into a video. In a nutshell, it comes down to a few different steps based on your input material. Knowing the advantages of using video instead of GIF, let’s see how to swap them. How to replace a GIF animation with a video? Using tag without a poster attribute won’t make the video file a candidate for increasing LCP, whereas elements are always considered when calculating LCP. Since the introduction of HTML5, tag has been a standardized way to use videos on the Web.īack in the day, this was achieved using things like Flash Player, which required dedicated software installed onto the client’s machine. In comparison, modern formats employ more efficient lossy compression techniques and video codecs that can achieve higher quality at smaller file sizes. GIFs tend to have larger file sizes than modern formats because they use a lossless compression method, which preserves every frame as a full image, resulting in redundancy and larger files. On the other hand, with video, you can preserve many more colors and details, depending on the codec, bitrate, and compression. This results in a noticeable quality loss, especially with gradient-like color fades. Leaving some hacks aside, GIF is an 8-bit format, meaning it can encode up to 256 colors. On top of that, GIFs have been around since the first stages of the Web and have proven to work, so why use video instead of a GIF? Color resolution/depth Why is video more suitable than GIF?įrom my perception, since the early 00s, there has been a general feeling that video is usually a heavier asset than GIF (especially since GIF is an image format). Worth noting that images and videos are not render-blocking, but loading a heavy asset still may impact the page performance, narrowing the bandwidth and potentially prolonging the loading of other page content. If it takes too long to load, it may decrease the page performance by increasing Largest Contentful Paint, one of the Core Web Vitals metrics. In addition, images, videos, or GIFs that play presentational roles usually occupy a significant amount of the viewport space, and a particular visual may be the largest element within the page viewport. It is even more important for users on limited mobile data plans or accessing web resources on slower public WiFi or 3G connections. To provide optimal performance, any visual medium on websites or any other client-server application should balance visual quality and file size (i.e., compression). Media on the Web: performance expectations If we go to DevTools and check the GIF animation source file URL at first glance, we can see an actual video file without sound and playback controls.īut why? In this article, we’ll review why video is usually a better choice than GIF and how to convert GIF files into videos to put onto web pages. Let’s take one of the most popular GIF-hosting websites, Giphy. The trend has been prominent in social networks and other content- or message-driven apps. It is common among modern websites and applications to use videos instead of GIFs. Published on October 12, 2023, in Engineering Everything Insights Engineering News Product Culture Compliance Improving animated GIF performance with HTML5 video Like Sonic 3&K, the different characters add unique ways to get through the stages, and I enjoy trying them all out. It's nice to see something different, even if they do remind me of the ones from Sonic CD. The special stages are tough, but that's expected. Studiopolis, visually, is like a Sonic CD level without the garish colors. The new levels are more interesting to me and are absolutely gorgeous. I've played so many versions of Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant Zone so many times that Im really feeling the fatigue. The only real thing I have a problem with are the reused zones. It really is a nostalgic ride that plays just as good, if not better than the classic genesis titles. The music is nice, and the presentation is great. All the positives and negatives I noted from the trailer are all in the game. Just bought this yesterday and I'm satisfied so far. I'll see about making a video next time I try. But again that drowning glitch is just awful. Sticking to the ocean just isn't the way this boss was designed, and outside of that glitch its a pretty cool fight from the platforms with a sound pattern. It's really the only thing that gets me against this thing and it feels like a glitch given most of the time I am again in mid-air and must helplessly watch Sonic's drowning death animation from the top of the screen. It's a death sentence as you are forced back onto the platform area that is being pulled under and the ocean doesn't recover you. You can't really do anything if attempting to damage those arms I find. If there was any actual control from hitting those arms(like holding the jump button to get some airtime and force yourself away from the platforms) it would be fine. Most often I am bouncing off the circular arms and even in mid-air from the bounce(not even close to touching the platform) it counts as death as you watch Sonic just fall off the screen without any chance of landing in the ocean. In all I enjoyed Sonic Mania and I will play it again and I can't wait to see how Sonic Mania 2 improve on it.ĩ9% of my deaths on the Oil Ocean boss come from cheap insta-kills if you happen to be hovering over the same platform tile when the arms pull the platforms under. I am not a fan of mid stage-boss as I much prefer having Sonic run to the finish line in act 1 and fight the boss in act 2, plus there were only a few that I liked fighting. The checkpoint bonus game is fun to play but it's far to long to be a checkpoint mini game, which makes sense since it was never meant to be that and it just feels so disconnected from the game itself as the one in Sonic 3 and Knuckles rewarded the players with shields, 1-ups or rings. I also don't like the drop dash as I found it to be useless outside of speed running and I wished that I could swap it out for the insta-shield attack. I also didn't like how long the final level was as it just caused me to stress out as I had to rush it just so I wouldn't get a time over and the developers knew that Act 2 was so long that they reset the time for the final boss. Honestly while I enjoyed the game and glad to finally to have a good Sonic game on Nintendo system after the mess that occurred during the Wii U and 3DS era, however it just feels a tad to similar to generation and Sonic 4 episode 1 in the sense that Sonic goes through time to replay levels in past games with only 4 news level all of which were good and fun to play and I wanted to see more of that. Finally finished the game with Sonic and Tails, san the 7 Chaos Emerald which I am currently working towards, just have the last two to get. ‘Napoleon’ Comes to Apple TV+, But When Will Ridley Scott Release the ‘Napoleon’ Director’s Cut?Īdam Sandler’s Daughter Sunny Sandler Gets a Cute ‘Spaceman’ CameoĪdam Sandler Hugging a Giant Spider in ‘Spaceman’ Is the Weirdest Movie Moment of 2024 So Far Stream It Or Skip It: 'Chappelle's Home Team Presents Donnell Rawlings: A New Day' On Netflix, Where The Third Taping's The Charm?Įlizabeth Hurley Shares Passionate Kiss With A Woman In Steamy Trailer For Her Son Damian's Directorial Debut, 'Strictly Confidential' Millie Bobby Brown Confuses Us All With Her American Accent On 'The Tonight Show' How To Watch 'SNL' Live: See Sydney Sweeney's Hosting Debut What Movie Should I Watch Tonight? The Hyde Tropical vape, previously known as Hyde Tropical Gummy, is a candied fruit blend that mixes sweet and sour flavors using a wide assortment of fruits. The Hyde vapes Blue Razz is made with more of a sweet, candied blue razz flavoring rather than an authentic fruit flavoring. If you are a fan of blue razz vapes, the Blue Razz Ice Hyde Mag vape and Rebel Pro provide a long-lasting disposable vape option for vapers looking for that fantastic mix of sweet blueberry, raspberry and mint. It is one of the most popular vape flavors and comes in almost every vape juice line and disposable vape line. Most vapers are familiar with the Blue Razz Ice vape flavor. This incredible vape flavor mixes a spot-on coconut taste with a creamy dessert and the overall taste is smooth and flavorful. This is probably because most others can’t replicate a coconut flavor like Hyde can. While many vape companies make a watermelon and blue razz flavor, not many make a coconut vape flavor. This popular Hyde vape flavor is a unique option for coconut lovers. Both are long-lasting vapes that come prefilled with 10ml and 11ml of vape juice. The Fresh Vanilla flavor is available in the Fresh Vanilla Hyde Mag vape, as well as the Fresh Vanilla Hyde Pro. The Fresh Vanilla has a light, soft vanilla cream taste that makes it a smooth all-day vape that you won’t get sick of. Most flavors that come in various Hyde disposable vape versions are a fruit mix, but not all vapers prefer a fruity vape. The Fresh Vanilla Hyde flavor is a fine option for vapers that are looking for a lighter flavor that does not have a sweet fruit taste. You can find the Rainbow flavor in the Rainbow Hyde Mag, as well as the N-Bar, Rebel Pro and many other Hyde versions. Even though this vape is very sweet, it has faint citrus and mint flavors that keep it well balanced. This blend seems to mix berry, citrus, and melon flavors for a fantastic overall vape. It blends a handful of fruit flavors to provide a familiar candied fruit taste. This vape flavor is a top-seller among most disposable vape brands. There are other popular flavors like Neon Rain that were not included in the following summary of top Hyde flavor options because it is not available in some of the latest Hyde vapes of 2022.
